Fungal Toenails
The area of the toes is generally warm and damp, unfortunately making it a perfect environment for fungus to grow.
Common signs that you may have a fungal infection include thicker than normal toenails, oddly shaped toenails, discoloration, a yellowish hue to the nail, and separation of the nail from the nail bed.
Treatment for this condition may involve regular debridement of nails, removal of affected nails, topical or oral anti-fungal medication and laser treatments. Our clinic now offers the Lunula Laser to treat this stubborn condition. This cold laser has two wavelengths – one which restores the color and texture of the nail plate while the other disrupts the fungal cell wall. Because there is no heat, treatments are very comfortable, safe and effective.
If you believe you’re experiencing a fungal toenail infection, we recommend that you speak with a podiatrist as soon as possible for a proper diagnosis and suggested plan for treatment. Call (519) 258-3668.
